Hey everyone! I've transitioned from a Help Desk role to managing Windows servers and have a solid background in operating systems, scripting, and troubleshooting. Now, I'm eager to enhance my skills in System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). I'm currently working on setting up my own lab to learn, and I'd love any recommendations for projects or resources to help me dive into SCCM. Thanks!

Are you looking to learn about software deployment tools specifically, or do you want to get into SCCM itself? If it’s just about deployment tools, there are simpler alternatives out there.

We do use a third-party tool for patching, but we still rely on SCCM for some deployments. I want to make sure I’m using it properly since some of our methods feel a bit outdated.

Microsoft offers some official lab setups, though many focus on Intune rather than specifically on ConfigMgr. Still, it could be a good starting point to adapt to your needs. Check out Microsoft Learn for potential configurations: [Microsoft Learn Labs](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/enterprise/modern-desktop-deployment-and-management-lab?view=o365-worldwide). It’s worth exploring!

Thanks for that! I’ve been trying to navigate their site, but it can be a bit overwhelming at times.

While SCCM is great, keep in mind that Azure Arc is likely the future for server management, with Intune taking over for workstation management. If your organization can cover it, consider enrolling in Microsoft's training courses—like the five-day Administering SCCM course. They usually offer a virtual lab with that, which is super beneficial. Also, ask if there’s an existing dev environment at your workplace that you could utilize for your practice.

That’s good to know! We currently use vx-rails, so I don't have much exposure to Azure, but I’ll definitely check into those classes since I get a training stipend every year!
