I'm planning an upcoming domain name change for our SharePoint site, and I've already verified our new domain (example.com) in Entra. However, I've come across some confusing instructions in Microsoft's documentation. It suggests we shouldn't use the 'Add domain' option on the Domains page because it doesn't create a .onmicrosoft.com domain. Does this mean we're unable to use our custom domain, or do we need to verify example.onmicrosoft.com instead?

Unfortunately, you can't use a domain like 'sharepoint.company.tld'. Instead, your SharePoint URL will always end up being 'example.sharepoint.com'. It's basically designed for a complete company name change. The rename function is super specific about how it operates.

Got it! But since we've verified example.com in Entra, can we use that directly? Or do we have to first validate example.onmicrosoft.com, which will then turn into example.sharepoint.com? Just to clarify—do we need to verify example.com or example.onmicrosoft.com for the rename?
