I came across some wires and I'm trying to figure out whether they are Ethernet cables or if they're designed for phone lines. I've attached a photo of the wires here: [this image](https://postimg.cc/mtfwJP9k). If they turn out to be Ethernet, I've found a tool-less keystone jack online that I believe would help me set up a proper Ethernet port. Here's the link: [Cat6 Toolless Keystone Jack](https://www.truecable.com/products/cat6-toolless-keystone-jack-unshielded?variant=39307891736643&country=US¤cy=USD&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=18014907063&tw_kwdid=&gad_campaignid=17348042543). Would this be the right choice if the wires are indeed Ethernet?

The type of cable does influence performance. If you're determined, you could punch down four pairs from those six to get something like a Cat5 performance. Just keep in mind that you might run into cross-talk issues. I’d personally go for new cable, but if you're just trying to save a buck, it could work—just ensure both ends are consistent.
Also, since those cables are flat, you might not get a clean signal, especially if they’re close to power lines.
Those wires look like they’re phone lines, probably Cat3. They won't work well as Ethernet because they're not built for the same performance. Just stick with proper Ethernet cables for a reliable connection.
It’s definitely basic phone wire. If you're looking for Ethernet, I'd recommend running new cables instead. Using these for Ethernet could give you performance issues, even if you find a way to connect them.

Thanks for that info! It’s good to know I have some options.
