I just built a new PC and I'm trying to update the BIOS using a Windows 11 USB drive, but it's write protected. I've attempted to remove the write protection using the command prompt and I also checked the Registry Editor, but nothing seems to work. I'm wondering if it's even possible to remove this write protection. If not, I might just have to buy a different USB drive for BIOS updates. Can anyone offer some advice?

If there’s no physical switch on your USB drive, it might be defective or the write protection cannot be disabled. Personally, I’d just grab a new, inexpensive USB drive instead.
You typically can’t remove the write protection. The official Windows USB has a firmware lock for that. Some people have found videos on YouTube showing how to disable it, but watch out—disable your antivirus during the process! Interference can damage the USB stick. Honestly, it might be better to leave it as is, since it’s secure from viruses that way. Consider keeping it for when Windows reaches end-of-life.

Yeah, I think getting a new one might be the best option. It’s just annoying to buy something and not be able to use it for anything else!
