How Do I Replace My Main SSD and Transfer Everything?

I've been having issues with my SSD, and it's constantly showing 100% disk usage. After trying all sorts of solutions, I've realized the problem is the SSD itself. I've ordered a replacement that's identical and plan to return the original under warranty. Here's the catch: my current SSD is the C drive where everything is stored. What's the best way to make the new SSD the main drive and transfer all my files? Can I just copy everything from C to D?

Once you've got everything cloned and it's working smoothly on your new SSD, make sure to save a backup for emergencies. It can really save you in tight situations—trust me, I've been saved more times than I can count!

Have you checked if it's an NVMe or SATA drive? Also, have you tried different cables or slots on the motherboard? As others mentioned, cloning is essential here. But if you're up for it, you could install a fresh Windows and transfer files later—just know that you’ll have to reinstall everything from scratch.

Cloning is the must-do here. Your SSD has several small partitions for boot and recovery info that you can't just access easily. It'll all have to be cloned over, not just copied.

You can't just copy and paste as I found out. I recently used DiskGenius to clone my old SSD to a larger one. The software has a migration tool on their free plan, so no need to spend money for that. Just use it for your transfer - it worked great for me!

You can't just copy and paste the C drive; you need to clone it instead. The C drive has crucial elements that aren't just files you can see. Make sure both drives are connected and use a tool like Acronis to clone it. Copying works for other drives, but not for the operating system drive.

Yep, definitely do this! I recommend using a USB enclosure too, so you can easily tell which drive is which while cloning.
