I'm looking to clean my USB drive so I can use it for other things, but I have some old photos from 2008 on it that I really don't want to lose. I've already made a new folder and copied the photos to it, but I'm not sure if it's safe to delete them from the USB drive. Can someone advise me on the best way to ensure these files are secure before I clean the drive?

Make sure you copy your files that you want to keep to another piece of storage or back them up online. After they're secured somewhere else, you can go ahead and delete them from the USB.

USB drives aren’t the best for long-term storage. They can fail over time. I suggest getting another drive to make multiple backups or even consider burning them to a CD or DVD, as they are more durable for storage.

If the USB is your only backup, you're taking a risk. Always have a backup strategy. Use a combination of internal drives and cloud storage to be safe.

Always keep important files in more than one place! I lost a chunk of my music collection once because I didn’t back it up properly, and I learned my lesson the hard way.

Before you wipe your USB, make sure to back up your photos in multiple places. You should have a copy on your computer, one or two online backups like Google Drive or OneDrive, and maybe even email them to yourself. Once you've got those backups, you can safely clean your USB drive.
