How do I stop my Alienware m17 R4 from throttling?

I've been using my Alienware m17 R4 without any overheating issues for years. Recently, I let my brother borrow it, and now the temperatures are hitting 90°C. I've already tried repasting the thermal paste, getting new fans, and using an external fan, but nothing seems to help with the throttling. When I play, I can only manage about 20 minutes of 50-60 fps before it drops to the high 20s. If anyone has advice on undervolting or how to deal with this issue, I'd really appreciate your help!

You might want to check if your brother changed anything when he borrowed it. Sometimes people accidentally overclock stuff or tweak settings in the BIOS or GPU settings. If he says he didn’t touch anything, it's worth making sure he didn't change anything in the Windows settings or game settings either. If the game was 'Ark', it's pretty resource-heavy, which could also be a factor. You could try underclocking or undervolting your CPU as some users suggest that helps with heating issues.

Yeah, definitely check that out! Sometimes those small updates can throw everything off. Also, don't forget to make sure your laptop is well-ventilated while gaming.
