How Do You Keep Coding When You’re Feeling Mentally Drained?

We've all been there—some days you want to code, but your brain just doesn't want to play along. I can sit and stare at my screen, and even the easiest tasks feel like climbing a mountain. I've tried using autocomplete tools in VS Code, like Copilot and BlackboxAI, but sometimes that just feels like relying on a crutch. I'm looking for advice from experienced developers: do you take a break when you're feeling this way, or do you turn to tools to help get your momentum back?

Honestly, this happens to everyone, including me! Sometimes the pressure of bills helps me push through. But let’s be real, there are times I hit such a wall that even that’s not enough. I’d just close my laptop and convince myself eating wasn’t necessary.

From my experience, taking a break is key. You can mix it up by working on a different part of your project, or even just stepping outside for some fresh air. A short walk in the sun can really help revive your motivation.
