I'm relatively new to this and have a background primarily in desktop support. Our SSL certificate expired on the 23rd, and the usual person who manages this is out for a couple of weeks, leaving me to handle it. I renewed the SSL certificate but then learned that I needed to generate and submit a CSR (Certificate Signing Request). I created the CSR through IIS Manager and submitted it to Network Solutions. It's been about six hours now, and the request is still showing as 'in validation' status. How long does this process typically take?

Six hours seems a bit long, so something might be off. Did you need to provide any additional approvals, or maybe pay for something?
It’s hard to say since each certificate authority has a unique process. If it’s been six hours, you might want to call them and ask what's up.
If it's under manual review, it could take a while. Have you thought about setting up Certbot with Let's Encrypt for automatic renewals? It's a hassle-free option once it's in place, and it's free too!
I didn’t know you could do that! I'll have to check it out, thanks for the suggestion!
Just keep in mind that setting up automation might require more expertise, especially if you’re filling in for someone else.
What validation method did you choose (like email, CNAME, HTTP)? Did you complete the validation process? If you went with HTTP, have you tried accessing it from a different network?
Many SSL providers require a domain validation step where they send you an ID to add to your DNS. If that ID was sent to the regular admin, you'll need to get it re-sent. Make sure you have access to manage your DNS.
Did they send a verification link to the registered email for your domain validation? If so, check your inbox!

I did pay and I have the confirmation. I reached out to support about the pending CSR, and they mentioned it can take up to 24 hours.
