How Many Projects Does It Take to Feel Efficient in Web Development?

Believe it or not, I think most people tend to feel pretty comfortable in their first tech stack after about two years. It’s all about experience! You’ll start recognizing common pitfalls, become more adept at digging into technical details, and even find yourself helping out beginners. Writing code quickly isn't the main focus for a lot of us, especially nowadays with AI tools around, but getting used to your stack takes time and practice.

Some might argue it takes a lifetime. You’ll gain skills, but there’s always something new popping up that you need to learn, so it's a continuous process.

I'd say around 20 projects, give or take, really helped me find my groove. But remember, it’s not just about the count—it's about what you learn from each project! Even so, programming can feel like a lifelong journey of improvement where you'll always find more to know.

I was pretty much on the ball with three projects under my belt! But, that’s just me. Everyone's journey is different and it can vary a lot.

Honestly, it took me a while to feel fluid, but I don't think a specific number of projects defines proficiency. It's more about the learning curve and what you encounter along the way.
