How Much Coding Skill Do You Really Need for Hackathons?

Hey everyone! I've been hearing a lot about joining hackathons, and while I appreciate that many people say you don't need any coding experience or skills to participate, I'm feeling a bit skeptical about that. It seems like everyone is building these amazing projects, but I can't help but wonder if I need to have at least some understanding of coding before diving in. Can someone explain what level of coding knowledge is actually beneficial to have? Is there a specific roadmap or resources I should be looking into to prepare? I'm worried that if I don't know enough beforehand, I'll just end up watching videos instead of actually building anything during the hackathon.

You can actually pick up a lot at hackathons! While it’s helpful to have some knowledge beforehand, it's not strictly required. Many great projects come from a mix of prior coding skills and creative use of tools like AI. Just dive in and see what you can create!

Hackathons are meant to be fun, so try to avoid putting too much pressure on yourself! If you're only aiming to land a job, you might want to reconsider attending. There's no need to feel like you have high expectations; just go and enjoy the experience!

Have you dabbled in any programming at all? If you're worried about showing up clueless, maybe tackle a few simple problems online beforehand to get the hang of coding. Try solving the 'Two Sum' problem on LeetCode—it might give you the basics you need to feel more comfortable when you arrive!
