How Should I Upgrade My 5-Year-Old Computer for Gaming and Music?

I bought a pre-assembled computer over 5 years ago from Walmart during the pandemic since we needed it urgently. The specs are a bit outdated now and I'm trying to decide between upgrading or starting fresh. Here's what I've got: an Asus A320 motherboard, Ryzen 3200G processor, no dedicated GPU, and 8GB of 2400MHz RAM. My son plays games like Fortnite, which has been lagging on the lowest settings lately, and he's interested in trying out more demanding games like Cyberpunk. He's also started getting into music production, and we recently got him a Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen interface. We're considering adding more RAM and a GPU, but we might also be better off investing in a whole new setup in the long run. We're not too concerned about saving money, but we want something solid without going top-tier, maybe around $1,000. What do you think?

It really boils down to your budget. If you want to stick around that $1k mark, you might want to get a GPU since that’ll help with gaming. But if you're thinking about a long-term investment, you're looking at something closer to $1500-$2000 to future-proof your setup. Just keep in mind that with your current specs and especially that A320 motherboard, you're quite limited on upgrades. I'd recommend looking at a complete new build.

That totally makes sense! With a tight budget, you might still get a decent GPU to pair with what you have now.
