How should I upgrade my PC given my RAM issues?

I'm currently dealing with a RAM issue in my PC build that has a PNY RTX 5060 Ti (16GB), a Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, and an Asus TUF Gaming Pro WiFi 2 motherboard. Right now, the DIMM slots 2 and 4 don't function, so I'm stuck using only one stick of RAM. I was planning to get a new motherboard and was contemplating upgrading from AM4 to AM5, but the pricing for DDR5 RAM is outrageous. My games, especially Fortnite and Minecraft, are running poorly, with Fortnite crashing my PC after about 30 minutes of play due to apparent instability. What are my best options moving forward?

It sounds like Fortnite crashing could be a memory leak. Have you checked if pagefiles are disabled? That might help with stability issues.

It's not always crashing at the same time; it varies. Also, how do I disable the pagefiles?

If you're considering upgrading, Intel's LGA1700 CPUs support both DDR4 and DDR5, providing a nice middle ground. Keep in mind, AM5 might be overkill for your setup with the 5060 and comes with extra costs. AM4 was great but does seem to be aging now.

True, but don't forget the 5800X3D still packs a punch.

But if OP opts for DDR5, they'd need to replace the CPU and possibly RAM, and not all motherboards support both DDR4 and DDR5.

Why just stick to DIMM? You mentioned slots 2 and 4 are out, but what about slots 1 and 3? My advice is to look into getting a used motherboard and DDR4 RAM. It might be more cost-effective than overhauling your whole setup now that prices are high.

Slots 1 and 3 are not working together either, so I’m using just one stick in DIMM 1. By the way, I found a deal at Micro Center for a bundle that could upgrade my setup.
