I'm having trouble accessing the BIOS on my Gigabyte Z390 UD motherboard. I've tried pressing the DEL key during boot and also attempted to get in through Windows Advanced Startup, but it always skips directly to Windows instead. The only time I managed to see a boot menu was when I had to reinstall Windows from a USB due to corruption.
I'm trying to resolve a Valorant error (VAN9005) that requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to be enabled. Here are my specs:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 UD
- CPU: Intel with integrated graphics
- Dedicated GPU (using HDMI from GPU)
- BIOS Mode: UEFI
- Secure Boot: OFF
- TPM: Not detected (tpm.msc shows no compatible TPM)
I recently reset the CMOS battery, but I'm still unable to access BIOS and only get a black screen. I've tried different monitors, HDMI ports, and USB boot methods without success. Should I remove my GPU and connect to the motherboard's HDMI to force the BIOS to show up? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'd recommend repeatedly tapping the DEL key immediately after powering on your PC. Keep trying until you see the BIOS screen or it boots into Windows. Also, switching USB ports is definitely worth a shot!
It sounds like your keyboard might be plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Those ports can sometimes be a bit finicky before Windows loads. Try connecting it to a USB 2.0 port and see if that helps you get into the BIOS!
Actually, since you mentioned using the advanced startup options, I don’t think that’s the issue. Just a thought!
Removing your graphics card and using the motherboard's video output could be a smart move. Sometimes the GPU can interfere with booting into BIOS.
Trust me, I’ve done that countless times! If it doesn’t work, I’m at a loss too.
