How to Change the Local AD Domain on Azure-Joined Workstations?

I'm in the process of phasing out an old Active Directory (AD) domain that only has a few users. Their workstations are currently Azure joined or registered. The old domain doesn't have AD Connect in place.

I'm trying to figure out if I can switch the local AD domain to our main domain (which does utilize AD Connect) without needing to wipe the machines or using any third-party tools. Just to clarify, we no longer use anything in the old domain, but a handful of machines are still connected to it.

Thanks for any guidance!

If the devices are not AD-joined and are only Entra-joined, you might be overcomplicating the process. Entra can simplify management with features like Windows Autopilot, which makes hardware provisioning much easier. Consider whether you genuinely need them to be AD-joined at all, especially if they're already functioning well with just Entra.

I believe they are still connected to the old AD but also registered with Entra. We need to be careful; even though the old AD is fading out, there are still computer objects that authenticate to it. I'm checking the workstations later today to understand their status better. Do you know if we can switch the AD domain without disrupting the Entra links?
