How to Connect a 5070 GPU to an Older PSU?

Hi everyone! I'm currently upgrading my system from a 3050 to a 5070 GPU, and I'm a bit confused about the power connections. My power supply has two 6+2 pin cables—one going to the motherboard and the other to the GPU. The 5070 requires a 12-pin PCIe cable, and I'm not sure which type of adapter I should use or if using one is even a good idea. I have a B760M-P motherboard that supports PCIe 5, so I think I just need the right cable for it. I've seen adapters available, but many of them have three female 6+2 adapters. Should I buy one of those and connect two of the 6+2 pins, leaving one slot empty? I worry that might not provide enough power. Also, do I need to connect the 6+2 pin slot on the motherboard or can I rely solely on the adapter? This is my first GPU upgrade, so I appreciate any guidance!

Before anything, could you let us know which power supply you have? It's really important for compatibility. As for the 6+2 pin slot on the motherboard, it doesn’t need to be connected unless you’re using a lot of PCIe devices that draw power from there. Since you're upgrading to a powerful GPU, focus on the GPU power connection.

I’m not exactly sure about the PSU details since I didn’t build this rig originally. I know it's a 650 watt unit and it hasn't caused any issues. I’d rather not dig it out if possible, but if it's necessary, I will. Thanks for your help!
