I recently picked up an old Symphonic TV that requires a CD/DVD player for it to work. I'm trying to use it as a display for my laptop, so I got an AV to HDMI converter. However, I've tested it with two different AV cords and two HDMI cords, but I can't get it to connect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like your converter is set up to convert HDMI to AV, not the other way around. Often, these adapters only work in one direction, so that could be the issue.
Ah, the classic case of getting the wrong direction converter! It happens to a lot of us, trust me, so no worries there!
Also, when looking for converters, note the options available for AV connections. Check if your TV uses RGB, CMY, composite, or RF. If your DVD player is putting out standard definition only, set it to test 1080p and see if your TV can handle that setup.
Make sure you have the right type of converter. You need an HDMI to RCA converter, not the other way around. Double-check that to avoid any direction issues.
With older TVs like yours, it's often best to try setting the resolution and refresh rate to a lower setting. Sometimes they just can't handle high resolutions due to their age.
