How to Fix Display Issues on Windows 11 When External Monitor Is Out of Range?

Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my laptop display settings. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 3 15, and I recently cracked the screen, so I borrowed an old LG Flatron N194WA monitor. I was using the "second screen only" mode when I accidentally set a resolution (1440x1054) that my monitor can't handle. Now, the monitor shows a "D-Sub out of range" message and I can't see anything. Can anyone help me revert the display settings?

Have you tried rebooting your laptop in Safe Mode? It's a great way to get back control over your display settings. You can usually boot into Safe Mode by holding the Shift key while you click Restart. From there, you should be able to fix the monitor settings without the out of range issue.

It sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle! If you can still see part of your laptop screen, try right-clicking on the desktop to access the display settings. You can also use the Windows key + arrow keys to move settings windows around. It might let you adjust the resolution back to something your monitor can handle. If you can access Device Manager, you could right-click on your external monitor and uninstall it; restarting your PC might reset the settings to default.

Thanks for the tips! I can adjust the resolution fine when using "Duplicate" or "Extend" modes, but switching to "Second Screen Only" still gives me the out of range message. I tried uninstalling the monitor but no luck.
