How to Handle Overpriced Domain Names from Resellers?

I'm in a bit of a bind trying to purchase a domain name for my app. Most of the names I want are already taken by resellers, and they're listing them for outrageous prices—some even for thousands of dollars. The names are more like brand names rather than descriptive terms, which makes it frustrating. I already have another website that's related to the content I want for the new domain, so when I negotiate, I fear they might realize how interested I really am. What approaches do you suggest for dealing with this situation? Can I negotiate, or should I look for alternatives?

You can definitely try to negotiate, but remember to keep your interest under wraps to avoid them raising the price. It might be worth hiring a broker to handle negotiations for you and suggest alternatives in the meantime!

You can get creative! Try adding a word like "get" to your chosen domain name. Instead of myapp.com, something like getmyapp.com could be available and much cheaper!

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do since this is all legal. Your best bet is to explore different domain options like .app, .co, or even .ai. The key is to secure those domains before you launch anything; it's a huge mistake to overlook this!

Domain scalpers really seem to be raking in the cash. Just yesterday I saw that cornhub.com is being sold for $445,000! If you can, try looking for a similar domain name, maybe with a hyphen or a different extension like .co or .io. It might save you a lot!

It truly blows my mind! I've seen people say they make a fortune just flipping domains. I mean, why would anyone pay that much? Sometimes I suspect the registrars are intentionally manipulating prices.

It’s frustrating seeing the state of domain selling. This feels like a symptom of larger issues. But hey, sometimes taking a step back can help. When you don't feel desperate for a specific name, fresh ideas often pop up, and they won't cost an arm and a leg.

Consider changing your company’s name or logo if you can. It’s just a name, you can definitely adapt! It might be challenging to find a good .com domain nowadays, but it’s worth the effort.

If you haven't done this already, I'd recommend securing your domain first before you commit to a name. That said, I've had mixed results negotiating with resellers. Some might be willing to lower their prices, while others won’t budge. You might also consider using different domain extensions or rebranding if that’s an option.

I guess it's tough. I had my eye on a domain but it's already priced way too high. It's frustrating discovering alternatives might be necessary.
