I'm currently in my second semester of a computer science program, and while I'm following the university's courses, I feel like I'm not really developing strong programming skills. I have a lot of free time and I'd like to improve my coding abilities on my own. However, I'm a bit lost on where to start and how to structure my learning effectively. For those of you who have primarily improved through self-learning, how did you enhance your programming skills? Did you follow any specific roadmaps, resources, or habits to stay consistent? I'd love to hear about your programming journey and any tips you can share!

I started programming as a hobby and just played around without any pressure to be great at it. Eventually, I found that to progress further, I needed to work with other people. Collaboration leads to learning a lot, plus it's a great way to develop soft skills, which are important too! Remember, CS courses focus on theory and concepts, not just code writing.

The best way to really improve is by building something. Real-world problems throw challenges at you, and figuring out how to solve them really helps you learn. It's all about getting your hands dirty and learning through experience!

I started from scratch at the end of high school, with basic tutorials on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Then, I got a book called "C for Dummies,” which helped me get comfortable with C. My journey took me through various programming languages and practical projects, which ultimately built my portfolio and skills. Constructing real applications is where you'll find out how all the pieces connect. Jump into projects and let that guide your learning!

I made it a point to exceed expectations in every assignment. If I was asked for a specific feature, I would think about how to add more cool features just because I was curious. Self-driven learning is crucial; it’s the key to being good in this field. Just keep fueling your curiosity and build stuff!
