I'm attempting to set up Zorin OS on my grandma's PC, which has an Nvidia NVS 300 graphics card. Is there a way to install the necessary drivers without downgrading the kernel?

Downgrading the kernel might lead to other issues. If you're using Arch, they maintain their own version of these drivers compatible with modern kernels. Alternatively, consider installing Mint 21.3 (the non-Edge version), as it's supported until April 2027.
The oldest legacy driver that Nvidia actively supports is 390. If your grandma isn't gaming, the open-source 'nouveau' driver should do just fine. It typically gets installed automatically during setup if the Nvidia card is recognized.
For your grandma, seriously consider sticking with 'nouveau' or even better, just remove the GPU and rely on the integrated graphics instead.
