How to Manage Lighting While Coding at Night and Monitor Suggestions?

Hey folks! I'm new to front-end development—just made the switch a few months ago—and I'm setting up my own workspace. Lately, I've been coding a lot at night, but I'm facing issues with lighting and eye strain. When the room is dark and I use a white-background IDE, my eyes start to hurt quickly. However, when I turn on my warm desk lamp, everything on the screen looks dull or too yellow.

Do you usually keep your lights on while coding at night? Any monitor settings or features you've found helpful for those late-night sessions? Also, as I'm about to buy a new monitor, I'd really love to hear your recommendations for monitors that are easy on the eyes for long hours of programming. Thanks a lot in advance!

Have you thought about using a dark IDE? They can really help reduce eye strain at night. Light themes shouldn’t be pure white; aim for a dim white instead. Also, coding at night might not be ideal for productivity, just a heads up!

Thanks for that! I’m considering a dark IDE, but I worry it might be too dim for reading code. Any specific dark themes you’d recommend that are still easy to read?
