How to Power On a Dell Pro 16 Plus Without a Docking Station?

I'm exploring options for turning on a Dell Pro 16 Plus without needing a docking station. Currently, it seems like the BIOS doesn't have settings for power on via key press. We have USB-C monitors with USB ports, so a docking station isn't necessary. I'd like a solution that lets users power on the laptop without having to physically open the lid and press the power button each time. What alternatives are available that I'm not considering?

If you're using these laptops as desktop replacements, check out Wake on LAN (WoL). Just keep in mind that some Dell laptops need the lid open and must be connected to AC power for it to work. So, that might be a consideration for you.

Right! It works great if the laptop is plugged in, but you have to be mindful of the lid thing depending on the specific model.

Exactly! It's a bit of a hassle if users might need to go portable sometimes.

You can also have the laptops remain powered on with the lid closed by adjusting the settings in Windows. This was easy to set up for the Pro 14 series. Keep in mind to enable USB wake support in the advanced power settings too.

Another approach is to enable Wake-On AC in the BIOS. You can use an adapter like the one from Amazon that allows you to control power more easily. This could be a good workaround for your situation!

Honestly, if you’re avoiding docks, they might just need to deal with pressing the power button each day. But if you configure the laptops to wake on AC power when they connect to the USB-C monitor, it should power up automatically when they arrive.

I haven't seen an external power button on Dell laptops in a long time. Typically, they should boot up just when power is applied. But if they're unresponsive, I used to hold the power button for about 20-30 seconds to reboot them.

Haha, I remember those days! But yeah, if they do lock up, that method works.
