How to Rebuild a RAID 1+0 on ProLiant DL320e?

I came into the office today and noticed that one of the four 2TB drives in my RAID 1+0 array has failed according to the HP iLo interface. What steps should I take to rebuild the array? Additionally, is it okay to replace the failed 2TB Barracuda drive with a different brand, specifically a 2TB WD drive, while keeping the other three drives the same? Also, I'm considering power cycling the server to restart some services—would that be a bad idea while one of the drives is down? Could it lead to data corruption?

Just a quick note on power cycling—it's usually best to avoid doing that while a drive is down. It could potentially lead to issues with data integrity. But if you absolutely need to, be sure you have backups.

If there isn’t a 'Hot Spare' assigned to your RAID, you’ll have to replace the failed drive. Sometimes the controller will automatically handle the rebuild for you. But just a heads-up—rebuilding can put a lot of stress on all the drives, especially if they’re older and have been running for a long time. Good luck!

You shouldn't worry too much, just swap out that dead drive and it should start rebuilding automatically. HP servers have had this feature for ages! But I'm curious, are you really still using Gen8 hardware in production environments? That seems a bit outdated.

Are you seriously still using Gen8 in production? That's quite the throwback!

Haha, yes! We're definitely planning to upgrade by Q1, but we’re still running it for now.
