I need some technical advice because my Apple ID was hacked. The hacker changed the two-factor authentication (2FA) phone number to one I don't recognize (it ends in 74) and linked an iPhone 6s to my account. Though I still have my correct password and access to my primary email, I'm stuck in a recovery loop. Every time I try to log in or initiate recovery through Apple's site, it insists I confirm the unknown phone number. I've attempted to enter my old number, fail the number of times needed to get the 'Don't have access' link, and also try accessing it via my Mac, but that's now logged out too. I don't have the original receipt for my Mac, so the Activation Lock process is tricky. Is there any way to get past this confirmation step when I don't know the number? Can I force the account recovery waiting period to begin? Thanks for your help!

It seems that the hacker might have also bypassed any existing 2FA protections. If they gained access like you mentioned, they could easily change the details. You won’t need access to the number, but you must at least know what it is for the recovery steps.
Why not reach out to Apple directly? They might have specific guidance or processes in place for situations like yours.
Unfortunately, without knowing the new phone number, getting back into your account will be extremely challenging. You really need the number to initiate any account recovery process.
Have you thought about visiting an Apple store? Bring your ID and any documents from your phone provider to prove your identity. They might have some options for you, though if they can’t verify the trusted number, they might not be able to assist.
