How to Recover Photos from a Broken Samsung Phone?

My wife's old Samsung S22 is completely broken, and she just got a new S26. While everything transferred over except for the pictures, I'm not sure how to retrieve the photos without the old phone being functional. Any suggestions?

Were her photos stored on a microSD card?

No, the S22 doesn’t support SD cards.

If there was any backup set up, just log into her Samsung or Google account, and you should find them there. If not, unfortunately, they might be lost for good.

I logged into both accounts, but she never manually backed up her photos. It’s odd that everything but the photos transferred.

What exactly transferred over? Usually, items like email and contacts sync automatically. Photos typically need their own backup. Samsung has options for automatic backups to OneDrive, or using Google Photos, but those do require a storage plan once you go beyond the free limit.

Everything looks the same as her old phone - apps, screensaver, texts, and call history. I checked Google Photos and OneDrive, but they’re both empty. She’s really upset about the photos.

It's a good idea to always have backups in place to avoid this situation. Don't rely solely on Samsung or Google for photo backups. Consider backing up regularly to a hard drive or cloud service.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely start doing that in the future.
