I'm new to Linux and recently switched to Mint Cinnamon from Windows, and I'm trying to get an older program called Hex Kit running. This is a map builder for tabletop RPGs, and it's been giving me some trouble. There's a Linux version available for download, but when I set it to allow executing the file as a program, it opens briefly before closing. I'm not sure what else I might be missing. Do I need to use Wine to run the Linux version, or is there a step I'm overlooking? I've also tried running the Windows version using Bottles, but that one doesn't even start. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try starting Hex Kit from the terminal. Sometimes that helps identify the issue with error messages in case it fails. Just open a terminal, navigate to where the Hex Kit file is, and run it. You'll see the errors there that can give you clues on what’s wrong.

What kind of errors did you get when you tried running it from the terminal?
