I'm looking for assistance with restoring a Macrium Reflect image that I created from my laptop's SSD and saved onto my HDD. I removed the SSD from the laptop and installed it in my PC. I've shrunk the existing HDD volume to create a blank 90 GB partition, which should be enough since the SSD is 128 GB and the image is about 30 GB consisting only of Windows and my applications. My goal is to restore the OS from this image onto the HDD, ensuring that I do not lose any existing data on the HDD. The laptop will mainly serve for data backup and a few interview preparations, so I want to avoid reinstalling everything from scratch. I've been searching for guidance, but I wanted a reliable source as I can't depend on automated responses for this. Thank you in advance for any help!

Restoring an image to a drive generally wipes the target drive, so simply restoring the SSD image to your HDD likely isn’t going to work without some data loss. You might be looking at a fresh install on the HDD instead, which means reinstalling Windows or Linux there directly.
You can't directly restore just with Macrium Reflect if you want to keep your data intact. One alternative is to restore your SSD image into a virtual machine and use tools like Disk2VHD to connect your HDD. You’d then be able to rearrange the partitions using something like GParted. Just be cautious and consider backing up everything first if you can! If you have fast internet, uploading your backup to the cloud might help you avoid buying extra storage. Just make sure to transfer your data before any ISP resets your connection.
I appreciate the reply! This sounds complex, I might just stick to installing a fresh version of Windows or Linux on the empty partition.

Thanks for confirming that! I think I’ll go ahead and just install a fresh OS on the empty HDD volume then.
