How to Stay Motivated and Finish Personal Side Projects?

Hey everyone,

I'm really into working on personal projects. They help me challenge myself and keep my tech skills fresh. The problem is, I often get distracted by new ideas and end up abandoning the projects I was working on. It seems like I keep moving from one shiny new idea to the next, and I worry that they all end up unfinished!

How do you all manage to stay motivated and actually finish your personal projects? I get that if there's a client involved, it's a different ball game, but what about when it's just for fun? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It's totally okay to ditch projects if you’re not feeling it anymore. Sometimes, just recognizing that you're still learning something valuable along the way makes it worthwhile. Completion is tough when there's no real incentive or goal!

One good tip is to set your expectations for completion really low. If your 'finish' line is just slightly over the starting point, you’ll feel accomplished even if it’s not a fully polished product. And honestly, the journey is often the best part anyway!

I often let ideas flutter in my mind without getting too far with them. Sometimes I realize I won't even start at all because the initial step feels daunting! Maybe we should just focus on starting, not worrying about finishing. 😂

Exactly! If you never start, how can you abandon anything?
