I'm planning to swap my GPU from a 5070 to a 5080, and I initially took my PC to Best Buy for the upgrade. However, they suddenly told me it would take three days, even though I was told it would only take a few hours when I made the appointment. I believe I can handle this myself since I've done some research and verified that the 5080 is compatible with my system. I know I need to use Display Driver Uninstaller to remove the old drivers, but I'm looking for a general guide to help me. Most tutorials I've seen are geared towards switching between Nvidia and AMD, but mine is just an Nvidia upgrade. Is there anything else I should keep in mind as I prepare for this installation? My specs are a CyberPower prebuilt PC with an Intel i9 14900F and a new 850W PSU.

Just a tip—install a GPU support brace when you put in your new card. I switched from a smaller AMD card to a 5070 before, and the new GPU sagged, leading to a lot of headaches until I finally used a support brace. My system runs perfectly now, so it’s worth considering!
I hadn’t thought about that! I’ll keep an eye out for sag issues as well.
You really don’t have to worry about uninstalling the drivers. The 5070 and 5080 use the same driver, so just swap the GPUs and you can install the new drivers if needed afterwards. You could even skip the driver removal entirely if everything was working fine before! If you face any issues, then consider the Display Driver Uninstaller.
Thanks for clearing that up! I'm still a bit new to this, and I just wanted to be sure I wasn’t making any mistakes since they’re both Nvidia cards.
That makes sense! I figured as much but didn't want to assume it would just work smoothly.
Honestly, you can just plug in the 5080 and update the drivers through the Nvidia app. There's really no need to use DDU unless something goes wrong. It should all work seamlessly!
I appreciate that! I've read so many conflicting things, and it’s nice to hear this straightforward advice.
That’s great! I really don’t want to complicate things more than necessary.
Since you’re upgrading within the same generation, you’ve likely already got the necessary drivers installed. Just focus on swapping out the GPUs to keep things simple! DDU is great for major changes, but in your case, it shouldn’t be needed.
Next time, if you can, do it yourself! It really is a straightforward task if you’re swapping within the same brand and generation.

Good to know! I saw my new card came with some supports, so I’ll definitely look into using them.
