Hey everyone! I'm currently working on a Proof of Concept for an AVD VDI solution for a large healthcare enterprise, and I'm facing some challenges I hope you can help with. I've managed to apply extensive policies via a mix of registry settings, GPO, and Intune, which has brought my first login times down to 40-45 seconds and subsequent logins to around 2-5 seconds, so that's a win.
However, a stakeholder is hesitant about using FSLogix because users may also work off bare metal systems, and they want to avoid issues with mismatched profiles. Instead, they want to redirect main folders like Documents and Desktop to OneDrive without using profile containers. My question is: Has anyone successfully synchronized bare metal profiles with FSLogix, or had success with a cloud solution for user profiles that works for both bare metal and virtual desktops? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

To get FSLogix up and running, you'll need Azure File Sync both in the cloud and on-prem. Make sure you've got a FS VM set up in Azure and another one on-prem, both with the Azure Sync service installed.
Honestly, I doubt the stakeholder would notice much of a difference if FSLogix was implemented. The performance you're aiming for is hard to achieve without it. But if they really don't want it, you're likely to struggle with login speeds anyway.
I had a similar experience trying to sync bare metal systems with FSLogix, and it was painfully slow when accessing from the cloud. For us, OneDrive helped keep the profiles in sync, but it still wasn't perfect. Just a heads up!
Why not go for the known folder automatic redirection with OneDrive? It's a simple way to manage the user folders without getting too complicated, and the users likely won't even notice!
