Hey everyone! I'm upgrading from an older Asus VivoBook to a new Dell laptop provided through my vocational rehab agency. I'm excited but a bit overwhelmed about moving all my stuff over. I primarily use my laptop for browsing and MS Office, since it's already installed on the new machine. My files include resumes, school assignments, and some personal ID scans. Additionally, I have both Microsoft and Google accounts, so I think I can use their cloud services for backups and maybe also some flash drives I have lying around. My passwords are saved in Firefox and I'm considering how best to transition everything as I plan to dispose of the ASUS afterward. Any tips on what I should do next?

I'd suggest keeping your ASUS for a week or so just in case you remember any important files you might have missed. Here’s a step-by-step guide: First, update the Dell and sign into your MS account so OneDrive syncs. You can move files either to OneDrive on the ASUS or use Google Drive, or just stick with a USB. Remember to associate your Office with your Microsoft account soon—it should tie the license to you. For passwords and bookmarks, sync them on Firefox before moving. If your Steam games support cloud saves, just log in on the Dell to access them. Don’t forget to back up any important settings and accounts! Lastly, for security, set up device encryption and file backup options on the Dell, then factory reset the ASUS once you’re all set!
You should definitely consider using a password manager like Bitwarden instead of just saving passwords in the browser—it's much safer. For the file transfer, just back up everything onto a USB drive or cloud storage and then copy it over to your new Dell. If you're worried about your games, don't forget that as long as you reinstall Steam, your library should stay intact. Just make sure to wipe the ASUS after you’ve confirmed everything has been transferred!
Yeah, but why would you need to reset passwords on the new Dell? Can't you just log in with the saved ones?
I don't remember some of them, and I heard Bitwarden has a free version, right?
I can definitely wait a bit before wiping it clean. Just want to ensure everything's okay on the new one first!
