How to Transition from Network Engineering to Cloud Engineering?

Hey everyone! I've been working as a network engineer for over a year now, focusing on LANs, WANs, WLANs, as well as experience with Meraki and firewalls. I'm feeling a bit bored and I'm really interested in making the shift to cloud engineering. I currently hold a Cisco CCNA, Fortinet Professional: Network Security certification, and an AWS Cloud Practitioner certification. What are the best steps I can take to transition into cloud engineering? I'd really appreciate any advice! Thanks!

I made the switch from network engineering to cloud myself! With about two years experience under my belt, I recommend starting with the AWS Solution Architect Associate certification. It's a solid challenge and can take you around four months if you're new to cloud. After that, due to your background, consider going for the AWS Certified Advanced Networking Specialty. It's tough, and you might not pass on the first try, but the knowledge you'll gain will put you in the top tier for cloud networking roles. This route really helped me land a position as a solutions architect across AWS and Azure. Good luck!

Awesome advice! Thanks for sharing your experience. I appreciate the suggestion about the AWS Security Specialty too, even though I struggled with it before. I'll definitely consider sticking to the SAA first.

Good point! It really depends on what specific areas of cloud you're interested in, like AWS, Azure, DevOps, or others. Each has its own paths and certifications.

Considering Azure might be a great fit since it's more prevalent in some regions. Just remember that while AWS is widely recognized, networking principles are often transferrable across platforms. Focus on the skills rather than just the vendor specifications.

Exactly, the networking background gives you a solid foundation. Just adapt your skills and tools to the cloud environment!
