My friend forgot the passcode for their iPad, and now it's giving the message that it will be unavailable for 8 hours. I've tried putting it into recovery mode since there's no home button, but I'm having trouble. I press the up and down buttons, then hold the power button until it turns off. When I attempt to restart, it shows the Apple logo then shuts down again. If I keep holding the power button, it goes to the lock screen with the 8-hour lockout. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do next?

It’s best to reach out to Apple Support. There’s no way for us to verify your ownership, and unfortunately, a lot of people post about trying to unlock devices that don’t belong to them. If it were me, I’d be cautious about handling the device with a lockout like that.

I totally get what you're saying. I'm just trying to help a friend, and if it looks like something's off, I'll just tell them to take it back. I really don't want to be involved in anything shady!
