How to Upgrade to Windows 11 on a New Drive?

I'm about to upgrade my PC with a new motherboard and a 5080 graphics card, and I'm planning to do a fresh install of Windows. Currently, I'm running Windows 10, but I think it's time to make the jump to Windows 11. Here's my situation: I have three drives in my system—a Crucial 2TB (C:), a SATA 2TB (D:), and an SN850 2TB (E:). My operating system is on the Crucial drive, but after I set up my new components, I want to move my OS to the SN850 drive. When I upgrade to Windows 11, can I select the drive I want to install it on, or is there a specific process I need to follow?

Honestly, if you're doing a fresh install, there’s no downside to upgrading other than gaining the new features. You can definitely choose the SN850 as your installation drive when you set it up, which is convenient! Just remember to back up your files first so you don’t lose anything important.

Agree with PCBuilder! A fresh start is the perfect chance to switch things up.

Make sure to properly back up all your important stuff before you dive into this upgrade. Files, bookmarks, and software keys are all good things to save. Better safe than sorry!

From what I know, if you just upgrade from Windows 10 to 11, it keeps the OS on the same drive. So, you might want to create a bootable USB drive with Windows 11 and install it directly on the SN850. Once that's set, you can format the original drive if needed. Just make sure to back up everything you want to keep!

I suspected that might be the case. Thanks for the clarification!
