Hey everyone! So I messed up a bit while building my first PC. I bought a Gigabyte Aorus Master with an AMD 9850X CPU, but I actually meant to get the new AMD 9850X3D. I don't want to go through the hassle of returning it, especially since that CPU costs around $1000! My setup includes a Samsung 9100 Pro, G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB with 64GB (2 x 32GB), and a be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 1200W power supply. I'm worried that I won't be able to game at 4K or that this build won't be future-proof. I also just ordered an ASUS ROG Swift 32" 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor (PG32UCDM) that should arrive on Tuesday. Will this setup suffice for 4K gaming? Will I notice a significant difference? Any advice would be appreciated!

If you’re mainly gaming, consider the 9800X3D instead. It performs similarly to the 9850X3D but is cheaper. That said, gaming at 4K is mostly limited by your GPU, so you probably won’t see a huge difference under most conditions. The 9850X is still pretty future-proof!
I wouldn’t settle for the non-3XD model if I were you. I know it’s a drag, but returning it and getting the right CPU is worth it. Just remember, you’re lucky you can return it and not stuck with something lesser.
Honestly, it’s not gonna make much of a difference in the next 5 years or even today. Your GPU can handle 8K at 30 FPS with DLSS enabled, so you’re in good shape! Enjoy your build!
The 9850X has the same number of cores as the 9850X3D but is clocked slightly higher, which could lead to lower performance in some games. However, it’s still an excellent CPU capable of running 4K games well. If you can return it, the 9850X3D would provide a bit of an edge, but if you're sticking with the 9850X, you should be fine for 4K gaming in general!
I’m okay with the price on the 9850X! If it’s not too noticeable, I can live with it for future-proofing for about 5 years.
What do you mean by lower performance? Is it still pretty good? As long as it’s solid for gaming, I’m cool with it.
So you’re saying the CPU isn’t a major performance hit for gaming? If it's solid for 5 years, I'm good with that!
