Hi everyone! I'm a student who has never created anything more complex than a simple drawing, but I'm eager to dive into game development. My dream is to create a multiplayer game with unique mechanics and impressive 3D models using the Unity engine. I'd love any tips you can share on how to start this journey, speed up the process, and ultimately showcase my game to the public. I've heard common advice like 'practice a lot' or 'start with simpler games', but I really just want to focus on making a game for now, not necessarily becoming a top programmer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you actually tried anything yet? What have you been working on so far? It might help to get a sense of your current progress.

So far, I have come up with the gameplay, genre, style, and I've started thinking about the lore, locations, enemies, and events.

Since you’re using Unity, you’ll be working with C#. Just remember, you really need to build a solid foundation of knowledge, especially for multiplayer games, which can be pretty resource-intensive.

I've been studying the basics of C#. I feel like I know about 50% of the theory, but I'm continuously practicing it.

1) Don’t expect to make money right away. 2) Making a multiplayer game adds a lot of complexity and time to your project. 3) Focus on building a prototype first. If you can’t manage that, try making simpler games to hone your skills.

Thanks for the advice!

Just a heads up: game development is typically tougher than web dev or software engineering. But don’t let that discourage you! There are some solid courses on platforms like Udemy that can help you get started.

I get that it’s going to be hard, and I expect my initial attempts might not be great. But I'm ready to tackle the challenges! Plus, I have a friend who wants to work with me.
