Installing an M.2 SSD on ASUS Motherboard: Confused About the Latch Mechanism

I'm trying to install an M.2 SSD into my ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Apex motherboard, but I'm completely puzzled by its M.2 slots. There are flanges that seem to be part of the ASUS Q Latch system, which look different from what I've seen before. There's a specific flange I'm talking about which is located above the CMOS battery. It appears that these flanges should rotate 180 degrees to secure the M.2 card, but the edge of the flange bumps against the metal support where the M.2 card rests, preventing it from rotating all the way. I feel like I might be missing something or doing it wrong, especially since all the guides I find are for a different latch design or the primary M.2 slot.

I’d recommend checking out the ASUS support site for your motherboard. They have a specific section for PC DIY that includes tutorial videos. Sometimes they can help clarify how those latches work with the 2280 M.2 cards. Just to warn you, though, that grey latch might not be designed for the 2280 size after all. Might be worth looking into if you need to use a screw instead.

Yeah, I think you're right! The latch design can be quite tricky. I had a similar issue and ended up just using a screw to secure my SSD since the latch didn’t fit correctly. Just make sure it’s snug but not too tight!
