IP Issues During Bare-Metal Restore: Need Troubleshooting Help

I'm currently trying to mount a remote share while performing a bare-metal restore in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). I've run into a frustrating issue where I can ping the remote server, but it can't ping my machine back. I've set up an IP address on my E1000 network adapter in WinRE, and it shows up correctly. However, I'm seeing that vSphere doesn't list any IP address for my VM, which I believe might be the core of the problem. Since WinRE has its limitations, I can't install any agents. Has anyone else faced this issue, and what troubleshooting steps did you take to resolve it?

Just a heads up, vSphere usually only shows an IP after you've installed VMware tools. This information doesn’t directly affect the VM’s network function, so it may not be the main issue here.

A solid workaround could be to copy the data you need through another system to a new virtual disk, then mount that disk to your VM and restore the data from there. It might save you some hassle!

Have you checked what the console shows? Sometimes there are clues there that can help you figure things out.

You might want to consider switching from the E1000 to the vmxnet3 adapter, but keep in mind that WinRE doesn’t support vmxnet3, so you’re stuck with E1000 for now.
