Is $1000 a Fair Price for Two Laptops in the Philippines?

Hey everyone, my girlfriend, who's American, is starting a hotel business in the Philippines. She just got there to sort out costs and what she needs, and she's looking at buying two laptops for the hotel. The store quoted her $1,000 for both, which breaks down to $500 each. Can anyone advise if this is a fair price?

Honestly, laptops in that price range can be quite basic and might not last long. If it's just for simple tasks like accounting, they could work, but I'd be cautious about performance.

Really? Even for basic use like printing and accounting?

Why not just get her to take laptops from the US? It's usually cheaper there. But I get it—she's not coming back for a while, so that option's off the table.

Yeah, she's there now to sign papers and get everything started. Once she leaves, she won’t be back for over a year.

For basic hotel management tasks, I’d suggest getting laptops with at least 4 cores and 16GB of RAM to ensure they handle everything smoothly. A desktop could be a good option too, but I know she prefers laptops.

Yeah, she's just looking for something to handle spreadsheets and print stuff.

The price seems high if you're comparing it to the US, but prices can vary a lot in the Philippines. Just like anything tech-related there, it's worth checking local prices for similar specs to get a better idea.

Gotcha! But how much would those laptops run in the US?

If you're looking at printers too, definitely go for a laser one! They're usually more cost-effective in the long run because toner lasts longer than cartridges.

But isn't a laser printer more expensive upfront?

If she decides to go with that deal, see if she can upgrade the RAM to 16GB. Just remember, you usually get what you pay for, so it might be worth investing a bit more for reliability.

Looking back, that deal they offered seems pretty underwhelming.
