Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out the power requirements for my upcoming build that includes a 9800X3D and a 5090 OC. I saw that PcPartPicker recommends around 805W, and I'm curious if I really need to go all the way up to 1000W to avoid power issues. I'd love to save some cash if I can! What do you all think?

Honestly, trying to save on the PSU might not be the best idea, especially with such high-end components. It's better to invest in a good power supply to ensure stability in your build. 1000W gives you plenty of headroom, and the price difference isn’t huge considering your overall investment.
I just switched to a 1000W from an 850W myself, and I’m really glad I did. You’d rather have that extra power reserved than run into issues down the line, especially with how fast technology changes.
I’ll definitely consider that!
For your setup, I’d stick with 1000W. While you could get away with 850W, you want to avoid maxing out your PSU's capacity all the time. Plus, 1000W PSUs are becoming more affordable nowadays, so it’s a solid choice.
Thanks for the friendly reminder!
A stock 5090 can draw around 600 watts, and during intense moments, it could spike to 750 or more. I’d say go for a 1000W PSU, especially since you're looking at overclocking. You’ll want that extra capacity for peace of mind.
Thanks a ton for clarifying that!
If you're thinking about overclocking, better err on the side of caution. While 850W may work, it's pushing limits that could affect performance. A solid 1000W ensures you keep things running smoothly, especially with a 5090.
I appreciate your input! Thanks!

Gotcha, thanks so much for the advice!
