Is $1500 too low for a company laptop as a senior consultant?

I'm moving to a new job as a senior consultant, and they have set a maximum budget of $1500 (before VAT) for my laptop. If I want something more expensive, I have to pay the difference from my salary over three years, which doesn't sit well with me. Currently, I use a MacBook Pro with 48GB of RAM, but they only offer options with 16GB memory within that budget. I'm concerned that 16GB won't last for the three years I need it. Is it unreasonable to expect more than $1500 for a decent laptop in this role?
