Hey everyone! I just built a new PC with a 5080 and a 7800X3D processor to pair with my 1440p monitor. The upgrade has really blown me away! I'm running Cyberpunk with path tracing and getting great frame rates, but I've heard mixed reviews about having 16GB of VRAM for the future. I've noticed some drops in performance with certain games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance, where my VRAM usage sometimes hits around 15.5GB. Meanwhile, Cyberpunk barely hit 12GB. I'm feeling a bit anxious, especially with rumors of upcoming 5080s boasting 20 or even 24GB of VRAM. Do you all think 16GB will hold up for the next few years at 1440p, or do I need to be concerned about future titles? Also, is Kingdom Come: Deliverance just a bad example of a game, or does it have specific issues? Any thoughts?

You should be set for the next five years. Sure, 16GB might be a limitation for heavy games with path tracing like Indiana Jones, but for the majority of titles, you should have no issues at all.
I really don't think you'll have a problem. Cards like the 4080 are still kicking strong even nearing three years old, and they haven’t made huge leaps forward since then beyond just cranking up power. Even older models like the RTX 3060 with 12GB will still be usable if you lower the settings a bit.
Exactly! They've been able to maintain decent performance on older cards, so as long as you're willing to adjust settings for the most demanding games, you'll be fine.
With so many players moving to 1440p, developers can't afford to make games that won’t run on a 5080. If a game comes out that requires more than 16GB just to run, it’s going to limit their audience significantly. You’ll be fine unless there's a huge shift in game development trends.
Honestly, I wouldn’t stress too much about it. I’ve got a 4070 Ti Super with 16GB and can max out pretty much everything at 1440p while running 100fps+ consistently. The 5080 is an even stronger card, so you should be good!
You know, a lot of developers are optimizing their games for upscaling these days. Utilizing DLSS, for example, will help you a lot at 1440p, and your card should keep up based on the current trends. If you’re okay with using some upscaling, you should have a good experience.
That’s true! Positioning yourself for good performance while keeping settings optimized will be key. Just be prepared for some potential dips without it.
You’re right! Most games are still optimized enough for 16GB unless they’re really pushing boundaries.
