I'm looking to buy my first 1440p monitor and I'm debating whether to go for a 180Hz model or splurge on a 240Hz one. I've been gaming on my Xbox and just built my first PC with a 7800x3d and an RX 9070. I mainly play competitive games but I'm also interested in getting into some AAA titles, estimating my playtime will be about 70% competitive to 30% AAA. If I opt for the 180Hz, I can save money and invest in a dual monitor arm to use my old monitor as a secondary display. What do you all think?

The leap from 180Hz to 240Hz isn't that significant. I prefer having a second monitor for productivity and multitasking. A higher refresh rate matters more in fast-paced competitive games, but if you're okay with maxing graphics settings, 180Hz should serve you well.
With your specs, like the 7800x3D and RX 9070, you should easily hit 240+ fps in competitive games. However, the difference between 180Hz and 240Hz isn't drastic for most gamers. I have a 165Hz monitor and I couldn’t tell much difference going from 100Hz to 165Hz. If you want a second monitor instead, go for the 180Hz option!
Save your cash! I have a 240Hz monitor but often run it at 144Hz without any issues. You’ll be just fine with a 180Hz and can always upgrade later when you feel ready.
Honestly, 180Hz should be more than sufficient, especially since you’re transitioning from console gaming. Most people won't notice a big difference beyond 165Hz anyway. Plus, if you're planning on playing AAA titles, you'll appreciate the dual monitor setup even more!
You might not even use the full capacity of a 240Hz monitor, especially at 1440p. Sometimes it’s more about the gaming experience than just the numbers. I’d recommend grabbing the 180Hz monitor and enjoy the dual monitor setup for more screen real estate. It’ll enhance your gaming and productivity.

Exactly! If you're into competitive games, sure, a higher refresh rate can help, but for AAA titles, the visuals matter more. It's all about balancing your setup for your needs.
