Is 8GB of RAM Enough for Windows 11?

I'm planning to build a basic system to run Windows 11 along with some software for an infrared spectrometer and a PDF printer. Traditionally, I like to have plenty of RAM in my systems, but I'm wondering if 8GB will be adequate for this setup. I'm considering 16GB to be safe, but I'm curious if 8GB is truly enough. Also, I'd prefer to use Linux, but unfortunately, there's no version of the infrared software for it. Any thoughts?

If you've got an SSD, 8GB will work well enough. Just keep in mind that an SSD can help speed things up, especially if you opt for 8GB of RAM. That said, it's worth knowing that 16GB doesn't cost much more and could provide extra peace of mind for future tasks.

Yeah, 8GB should be fine for basic tasks like what you're describing. If you're just running Windows 11 and some lightweight applications, you shouldn’t run into too many issues. However, keep in mind that if you plan on doing anything heavier, like editing videos or gaming, you might want to consider upgrading to 16GB or more.

Honestly, 8GB is okay, but definitely not ideal. If you’re using Chrome, just a heads-up that three or more tabs could start to slow things down. It might be worth uninstalling any unnecessary pre-installed apps to help keep your system running smoothly! You can usually make it work, but more RAM is better if you can afford it.

Exactly, just make sure to remove any bloatware right from the start. It helps! Nothing worse than having a sluggish system with unnecessary apps taking up RAM.

I'd say calling 8GB 'sufficient' for Windows 11 is generous. From experience, I had an 8GB laptop, and after a fresh install, Windows 11 could use a fair amount of RAM just idling. So if you go this route, try keeping an eye on what apps you have running and consider manually setting your paging file to a fixed size to manage performance better. Just a tip!
