I'm considering getting a monitor for my RTX 5090 and I'm unsure if a 165Hz QD OLED would suffice, or if I should invest in a 240Hz model instead. I occasionally play competitive games and want to make sure I get the best experience possible. Any thoughts or recommendations?

It really comes down to what you play. If you don't dive deep into competitive gaming, a 165Hz monitor can still offer a great experience, and if it's on sale for much cheaper, it could be a solid pick!
Choosing the right monitor really depends on your gaming habits. If you're mainly into competitive titles, hitting those higher refresh rates can make a difference, especially if you can maintain 240 fps. But for more graphically demanding games, even with a 5090, you might struggle to reach those numbers without some help from technologies like frame generation.
Currently considering the Alienware AW2725Q; it’s a great deal for a 27" 240Hz OLED. I prefer the smaller size for a closer viewing experience. If you're leaning toward OLED, it'll give you a premium feel that’s worth the investment!
Nice choice! I thought I was looking at the same model earlier too!
I recently grabbed the ASUS PG32UCDM and it's been a total game-changer for me. The display quality is unreal! Definitely check it out if you're in the market for a high-end monitor.
I'd lean towards the 240Hz option if you want to future-proof yourself. I have a 4K 165Hz monitor and can push my 5080 to nearly max settings easily, but I sometimes miss that extra smoothness in fast-paced games. If you're okay with 4K 165Hz for now, the 5090 is still fantastic, but don't underestimate the 240Hz experience in competitive games!
Is your monitor OLED or just IPS? I'm torn between the two types!
I can max out most demanding games at around 200 fps with frame generation, so it can be done!
