Is a $200 PC Deal Worth It?

Hey everyone! My son has been really enjoying Skate 3 and some other PS4 titles on my emulation PC. I've been browsing for a budget-friendly PC to set him up with and found one on FB Marketplace that's been sitting there for 12 weeks. The seller originally was asking for $350, but I offered him $200, and he agreed since he's tired of having it in his basement. Here's the rig:

- **Case:** NZXT H5
- **CPU:** Intel Core i7-7700k
- **PSU:** EVGA 750w
- **GPU:** Nvidia EVGA GTX 1070 FTW2
- **Motherboard:** Asus Maximus IX Apex
- **RAM:** 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2400MHz
- **Storage:** None (you'll need to install your own)
- **Extras:** PCIe Wifi/LAN Card, Corsair AIO Cooling (about 6 years old, might need replacing soon)

Just to note, I have some spare parts like RAM, cooling, a B450 Tomahawk motherboard, and a Ryzen 5 2600X that I could swap in if needed. What do you all think? Is this a good deal for $200?

Honestly, I’d pay anywhere between $200-$300 for this setup depending on its condition. If everything checks out and the case and motherboard are good, maybe even up to $350!

Why not consider just using your old parts to build a new rig? Grab a 1TB NVMe SSD, a good case, and maybe a solid used GPU like a 3060 or RX 6600. That way, you can create a great budget gaming machine!

I snagged an i7-6700k setup with 32GB RAM and a 2080 for $225 earlier this month, so I feel like I got a great deal. $200 for your setup is definitely in the ballpark for good value!

If it works, it’s probably worth it! Just make sure to ask if there have been any boot issues because you’ll definitely need to install a drive and OS yourself. Might be a bit of a project, though!

I think $200 is a fair price! Just be aware that the 7th Gen Intel processors, like the i7-7700k, have some limitations with Windows 11 compatibility due to Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 requirements. You might need to get creative with installations or consider other OS options if that’s a concern. But if you’re looking for older games, this setup should run fine!

That’s not entirely true! If your motherboard supports Secure Boot and TPM 2.0, you could still install Win11. My ASUS board does, but personally, I’m sticking with Win10 for now.

For sure, use Rufus to create a bootable ISO and you can get Win11 working on unsupported setups!

Keep in mind that since this has an Intel CPU, you can’t swap CPU/motherboard with your AMD parts. But considering the GTX 1070 in this rig, $200 is definitely reasonable.
