I'm wondering if a 2200W power supply unit (PSU) is excessively powerful for most builds. I've been looking into getting a PSU and I've realized that the 2200W and even 1800W options might not be practical. I'm now considering the Dark Power Pro 13 at 1300W. Does anyone have any thoughts on this decision?

For most users, 1000W is more than enough. Even if you want some extra headroom, 1200W will suffice. Honestly, 2200W is pretty ridiculous unless you're planning on some wild multi-GPU setup.
Yeah, a 2200W PSU is way overkill for most setups. You'd be totally fine with a 1000W or 1200W PSU, honestly. Those should cover most high-end builds without a hitch.
Honestly, you won't even be able to utilize that 2200W. You're likely to hit a circuit breaker before reaching that limit. Don't waste your money on something so overpowered!
Even a 1800W PSU is usually more than enough. I calculated that if you max out high-end parts like the 5090 and 9950x3d, you'd still be under that threshold. So yeah, I'd totally recommend sticking with the 1300W you're considering.
In the US, a standard 15A outlet can handle a maximum of 1800 watts. So going for anything over that, like a 2200W PSU, is pretty much wasted money unless you have a 20 Amp circuit.
