Is a 450W PSU Enough for an RX 5700 XT?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my PC with a used RX 5700 XT. Currently, I have an RTX 3050 with a 450W power supply. I also have an i5-9400, 16GB + 8GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD plus a 240GB SSD. My motherboard is a B365M DS3H. I want to know if this setup is enough for gaming, especially for games like Fortnite, GTA 5, Far Cry, Star Wars, and Dying Light. Should I consider upgrading my power supply?

While a 450W PSU might technically work, I’d recommend aiming for at least a 650W PSU for better stability, especially with modern games. Your entire system will draw power, not just the GPU, so a little extra headroom is wise. PSUs aren't that pricey and swapping them is usually pretty simple!

I get that, but I’m trying to save money. Upgrading both the GPU and PSU is going to cost me around $300!

Honestly, it’s better to invest in a higher wattage PSU now. A good 650W or 750W unit can handle upgrades better down the line. I've had my Cooler Master 1000W for nearly two decades through multiple upgrades!

That sounds great, but it’s not affordable for me right now.

Try to save your money for a decent 550W or 650W PSU. The RX 5700 XT can have some transient spikes, which might lead to instability even if a 450W PSU could handle it on paper. It’s worth it to avoid potential headaches while gaming!

So just buy a new PSU? My PC struggles to handle Fortnite even at 60 FPS max settings!

You should definitely double-check the label on your current PSU, as sometimes low-quality 450W units can struggle under load. If it doesn’t have a strong 12V rail, you might run into issues. Better to invest in a good quality 550W or 650W PSU now so you won't have to upgrade again soon.

I can’t really check it at the moment since my PSU is buried under my PC!
