I'm considering upgrading my GPU to an RTX 2080 Ti, but I want to make sure my power supply can handle it. I currently have a 550W Gold rated Cooler Master PSU. Here are the rest of my PC specs:
- Ryzen 7 2700X
- ASUS B450 motherboard
- 2TB Samsung 870 SSD
- 3 fans (I know my ventilation isn't great)
- Current GPU: GTX 1070
I understand there might be a slight CPU bottleneck, but I'm planning to upgrade that soon. Will my PSU be sufficient for the RTX 2080 Ti?

You should be fine as long as you're not overclocking, and it sounds like your PSU is on the decent side. Just keep in mind that 'Gold' rating doesn't guarantee top-notch quality and reliability, so make sure it's a solid model. If you're sticking to standard usage, you're likely in good shape!
While a 550W unit can potentially handle the RTX 2080 Ti, it’s better to be on the safe side and consider a 650W PSU if you have the option. If you find yourself in a tight spot, undervolting the GPU might help keep the power in check without major performance loss.
Thanks for the tip! I'll look into undervolting.
One thing to check is if your PSU has enough cables for the 2080 Ti. The base model pulls around 270W during gaming, and some models hit near 300W. It might run fine as most modern PSUs are pretty reliable, but think about upgrading in the future if you want peace of mind.
Not to worry there, I’ve got plenty of cables!
Totally get that! I'm not overclocking either, so I think I'll be alright.
